Lisa Marks
Project Manager
Lisa Marks
Project Manager

A stark counterpoint to her computer-nerd coworkers, Lisa had no computer growing up. In fact, she typed her school papers on a typewriter (especially tragic when teachers asked for multiple copies).

Following a disability injury in 2005, Lisa left her position at Meriter Hospital and began her foray into Web/media development. While she recovered, she learned Web-building and graphic design.

Lisa’s role at Herkimer has grown to include updating client sites and building new features, managing logistics for the office and large projects.

What has been the most important innovation you have witnessed in your lifetime?

The Internet. The Internet did a landslide into homes when I was in early high school. I am lucky enough to remember life before the Internet arrived and savvy enough to make a career populating it with beautiful websites. I often reminisce about what I would have done pre-Internet when I find myself taking the Internet-way out of things.

What is on your Bucket List?

Everything! Am I allowed to say everything? I want to have as many experiences as I can. There is a hierarchy of course. Most of the items on top are locations – and they have great scuba diving.

What is your Favorite Sport?

Sportsball? Let’s say hockey.

What phobias or irrational fears do you have?

Lady bugs, large crowds of people and losing my wallet when it is time to pay for something.

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would they cast as you?

Selena Gomez or short-hair Anne Hathaway (not Princess Anne Hathaway). I have been told there is a resemblance.

Steve Blair
Lead Developer
Steve Blair
Lead Developer

Steve grew up mostly in De Pere, WI. In high school, he acquired a second-hand computer that was already 5 years ancient. He immediately started programming in C/C++, used it to get online and actually met his future wife online in 1997.

After high school, he moved to Madison and earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Herzing College. Steve has 12+ years of PHP, JS, HTML, CSS, SQL, Bash, and maybe even some other acronyms.

Since graduating, Steve has concentrated on developing dynamic custom and CMS-driven Websites and applications, using a plethora of ever-changing web technologies.

Outside of work, Steve enjoys working on his 1901 Queen Anne Victorian home, gardening with his wife, welding custom bicycles and garden art, restoring and driving his 1969 MG Midget and playing the Ukulele.

Getting to Know Steve:

If you could be any animal what would it be and why?

Hawaiian Nene Goose - The Canada Goose that escaped to Hawaii 1/2 million years ago. OR Galapagos Tortoise - for sheer longevity.

What is one thing child you would want to kick your butt for doing as an adult?

Wish I would have found the ukulele as a child - I would have stuck with music through college.

What would you say your best non-work talent is?

Taking things apart to see how they work.  Getting them back together is considerably more challenging.

If you could eliminate one thing from your daily schedule, what would it be?

Sleep

Favorite candy?

Proper Hawaiian Shave Ice (if that can be considered a candy) Otherwise: Aussie Red Licorice

Describe the animal you would make if you could create an animal “from scratch”

Have you ever been told you look like someone famous? Who?
Macaulay Culkin

What song would you sing at Karaoke?

Amy Hanaiali'i's version of Haleiwa Hula (but 1 octave lower)

Nathan Marks
Founder, Design Lead

Nathan’s parents brought home their first computer when he was four. The year was 1980. Within minutes, his graham-cracker encrusted fists were pounding keys with abandon, and square floppy disks were strewn about the room.

Along with his lifelong fascination for all things electronic, his professional skill set has been honed through positions as a Graphic Designer, Training Coordinator, and Product Manager.

Nathan founded Herkimer in 2003 when he first started taking-on freelance Web and design projects. Since then, the company has added an amazingly talented full-time staff, and built more than 300 sites for a diverse set of companies and organizations. He is passionate about business, and using the Internet to ignite success for Herkimer’s clients.
