Adding a web link to your content is very useful. You can add links to your own site, other sites or to an email account, all from the same link function. To begin, highlight the text or image that you would like to link:
With the text highlighted, click on the chain link button to pull up the link box.
A new box will appear:
After this step, the url field and target may differ depending on the type of link you are inserting.
- External Site Links (off of your site)
- E-mail Link
- Internal Site Link (links within your own site)
- Link to a Document or image
If you are linking to another website, copy the link directly from your address bar or type it in to the link url field prefixing it with an http://
Since this is a link to another website, you'll want to select "Open in new window (_blank) from the Target drop down. This will open a new window for the external website to show up. If this window is closed, the user will still have access to your site from the original window. Add a title tag that describes your link and finally click "Insert".
If you're adding an email address, follow the same steps to insert a link. Highlight your text, click the chain link and open the window for inserting a link. In the field for link URL you can add the prefix "mailto:" followed by the email address of the person who's address you would like to link to.The default Target field can be used and a quick title can be added, then click insert:
If you are trying to link text or images to a page on your own website, follow the same steps to insert a link. Highlight your text, click the chain link and open the window for inserting a link. Copy the url of the page you would like to link to from your address bar, while you are visiting that page. In the Target field, keep the default, open in this window/frame. Click Insert.
If you are trying to link text or images to a page on your own website, follow the same steps to insert a link. Highlight your text, click the chain link and open the window for inserting a link. Then, click the "Browse" button to the left of the "Link URL" field:
Then a new pop-up window will appear that allows you to browse the server (or, upload a file to it). Click the "Upload" button:
Choose a file from your hard drive, and then click the "Open" button:
When the file is finished uploading, double-click on it (it will become highlighted in blue).
...and the URL for the file will appear in the "Link URL" field. You can now click the "Insert" button to finish inserting your link:
